Lit and Luz at UIC

As part of our Chicago Writing Partnerships, the Center will host Lit and Luz at UIC. Started by Make Literary Productions in 2013, Lit and Luz is an ongoing collaboration between writers and artists from Mexico and Chicago. (Daniel Borzutzky has been an artistic director of the festival since its inception). Each year Lit and Luz brings several writers and artists from Mexico to Chicago for readings, lectures, performances and collaborations across linguistic and cultural divides. Participants have included renowned Mexican writers like MacArthur Fellow Cristina Rivera-Garza, Valeria Luiselli, Julian Herbert, Sara Uribe, and Veronica Gerber, among others. The Center will facilitate readings, lectures, and class visits for the visiting Mexican writers with the goal of making our students aware of the importance of Spanish-language literature, translation, and cross-cultural exchange.
