Translingual Translational Laboratory

Fostering multilingual forms of writing, translation and experimental language.

This is a studio space that will host the creation of experimental translations, multilingual writing projects, collaborative poetic works or performances. Local and visiting writers will be given time and resources needed to create new work, which will be presented as works-in-progress for the Center and the UIC community. Artists will host formal or informal workshops, give talks and readings, and be encouraged to develop collaborative relationships with individuals at UIC and Chicago. Writers will hold two- or four-week residencies as they become a vibrant part of our curricula. Through courses such as ENGL 573 (Translation Workshop), ENGL 575 (Experimental Writing Workshop), and ENGL/LALS 442 (Special Topics in Latinx Literature), we will bring these writers into the classroom to make them a vibrant part of our intellectual and creative community.
