LXLA Welcomed Marcelo Hernandez Castillo & Rocio Cerón to Inaugural Poetry & Performance Reading

The first reading of the Poetry & Performance Series took place on Sept. 12th at Madison Books.

The Center for Latinx Literature of the Americas had their first reading with invited guests, Marcelo Hernandez Castillo and Rocio Cerón. Both poets' works experimented with language and form. Castillo's poetry reading experimented with techniques of revision, inviting the audience to question if a poem can and should be read the same way in each performance. Cerón read from her collection, Divisible Corpóreo, and immersed the audience in a performance of sound, video, and of memory with her performative video, Spinal Bush.

Graduate students, Eniko Vaghy and Em. Williamson, also read selections of poetry and fiction. Their work showcases the current creative work coming out of UIC's Program for Writers.

We would like to thank everyone who attended and look forward to the next Poetics & Performance reading event on Monday, October 10th at 6:00 pm at Madison Books.
